Kearney Soccer Club Programs

The Kearney Soccer Club offers a number of outstanding programs for the youth and families of Kearney.  Here is a listing of our programs, a more thorough description of each program, including the specifics of the current season is available by clicking the name of the program.

Mini-Micro Soccer
Boys and Girls born in 2021

Mini-Micro Soccer is an introductory program with the focus on discovery, fun and skill development.  Players are placed on teams by age and gender, usually 6-7 players on a team, playing 4 v 4 with no goalkeeper.  Parental volunteer coaches are provided with a practice curriculum and great training support each session by one of Micro Coordinator and our Micro helpers. The season is typically 4 weeks in length, featuring 4 play dates on Sunday afternoons. A normal play-date features equal measures of fun training with our coaching teams along alternating with short games vs an opposing team.

Micro Soccer
Boys and Girls born in 2019 & 2020

Micro Soccer is an introductory program with the focus on discovery, fun and skill development.  Players are placed on teams by age and gender, usually 6-7 players on a team, playing 4 v 4 with no goalkeeper.  Parental volunteer coaches are provided with a practice curriculum and great training support each session by one of Micro Coordinator and our Micro helpers. The season is typically 5 weeks in length, featuring 5 play dates on Sunday afternoons. A normal play-date features equal measures of fun training with our coaching teams along alternating with short games vs an opposing team.

Developmental Soccer
Boys and Girls born in 2015-2018
Developmental soccer is the second level of our introductory curriculum.  Individual technical skills and 1v1 skills are the focus for the U7 & U8 players while the U9 & U10 players focus on small sided games and tactical/spatial awareness.  Fun and discovery learning are always a large part of the Developmental age groups.  The Developmental season is 5-6 weeks in length.

U9/U10 teams consist of 10-11 players and play 7 a-side games.  Teams usually meet twice a week on weeknights training on one night and playing a game on the second night of the week.  Parental/volunteer coaches follow a specially designed curriculum created by our Developmental Coordinator. U9/10 Teams will be coed, boys and girls will play together on the same teams.

U7/U8 teams will move to a 6-7 player roster and play 4 a-side games on a smaller field.  Teams will meet twice a week on weeknights training on one night and playing a game on the second night of the week.  Paid coaches follow a specially designed curriculum created by our Developmental Coordinator.

Playing a smaller-sided game on a smaller field will bring us in alignment with age-appropriate norms established by the US Youth Soccer.  Players will experience more touches of the ball and more time in possession of the ball, which in turn will allow for better technical development, more opportunities for decision-making, and better overall development of our players.

Competitive U9 Soccer
Boys and Girls born in 2016
Competitive soccer is the level of soccer between our Developmental program and our Select program. It is designed to provide a higher level of training, teaching and competition than that of our Developmental program, yet it is not as comprehensive as our Select program is in terms of cost or commitment.

Parental/volunteer coaches  utilize an academy system of training under the direction of our Director of Coaching. Teams train twice a week, and play a mixed schedule of tournament, league and friendly games.  Most events are held on weekends within a 2-3 hour distance from Kearney.

The KSC Competitive Program is offered to ALL of our U9 players who wish to play in a more competitive environment.  There are two distinct seasons as this is an exploratory process.  Players are not committed to the spring season if they find that this program is not for them. The registration fee covers all expenses except for the uniform.

Competitive U10 Soccer
Boys and Girls born in 2015
Our U10 Competitive program is the direct lead-in to our Select program.  Training and competitions are similar to those of the U9 program.  The main differences:

League play is normally introduced.
Registration is for an entire soccer year, not two seasons.
Teams have more flexibility in determining their schedules and seasons.
Teams determine their own team fees and budgets.

The KSC Competitive Program is offered to ALL of our U10 players who wish to play in a more competitive environment.  We do accept spring season additions during spring registration.

Select Soccer
Boys and Girls born in 2011-14
Select Soccer (sometimes referred to as travel soccer) is the most advanced level of soccer within our program.  Designed for the serious player, select soccer has cost and commitment expectations that exceed that of the Competitive program.  There is more travel and expenses and the commitment and focus of training and competing are greater.  Teams are trained and coached by volunteers with support from professional & staff coaches.  Teams are expected to play in competitive leagues and tournaments.  Our most competitive teams will feature in state and regional advancement competitions.

When we have an age group with large numbers and our numbers are larger than a league roster will allow, we will hold a tryout to determine that team.  Players who are not chosen for a team are offered training positions with the club in order to better their skills for future participation.

TEAM FORMATION DATES - June 1 thru July 1
There is only one registration period per year for Select Soccer - the month of June.  Players can be added at any point during the year but there must be an opening on a team for that to occur.

The fall season is normally August thru mid-October, the spring season is normally April thru June.  The registration fee for the year is $175.  Here are other normal per-player expenses as a part of a select team:

Uniform - $131
Tournaments (3-4per season) - $150
Coaching/Training (per season) - $100*
League fee - $50
*for teams who choose to use a professional coach/trainer.

Local tournaments are typically 3-4 times a season, most are within 3 hours of Kearney, a regional tournament each season might be on the schedule (Kansas City, Denver, Sioux Falls, Des Moines). If a team plays a league schedule, that is normally 7 games in Lincoln.

Nebraska Select & Nebraska United
Girls and Boys born in 2006-2010
Nebraska Select (girls) and Nebraska United (boys) are the select programs for our players as they reach the high school age groups.  At the Under 15 age and above our players have hopefully made the decision that soccer is one of the priority activities and as such place a high importance on commitment, focus and a great desire to develop to their highest potential.  Players are placed on teams based on age and ability.  Player movement (playing "up") based on ability is greater in these programs than at any other time.  Elite level teams are formed in order to play in State & Regional competitions as well as Showcase events for those players interested in playing at the collegiate level.   Our teams are trained and coached by our professional staff coaches. Elite level players from outside our community are encouraged and recruited to play in these programs to increase the development of our players and the visibility of our teams.

As the ONLY year-round competitive soccer program for high school-aged boys and girls west of Lincoln, Nebraska Select & United caters to a large number of players with a divergent set of ages and abilities.  We utilize an academy style of training and organization in order to provide the best level of competition for all of our players.  Players are placed on teams based on ability and age - and movement between teams is common, based on the needs of the program and the types of events and competitions in which we enter.  For our most talented players (regardless of age) we provide an elite level pathway that features the most competitive league, tournament, and showcase play.

Nebraska Select & United is a competitive soccer program and as such has one primary goal:  The continued development of all our players, both in training and in matches, against the most appropriate level of competition available. Not all of our players wish to play in college, but most desire to play for their respective high schools. Our goal is to help each of our athletes reach their potential as a person and as a player.

Playing time philosophy

It is important to be able to give all of our players quality time in our games and competitions in order to best maximize their development.  Every effort will be made to give each player a minimum of 50% playing time in each game played, BUT that is not a guarantee.  While player development is our number one goal, we do acknowledge that learning to be successful and achieving success on the field is an important part of a player’s development.  In events where there is a championship or final, our goal is to win that event.

Fall 2024 Registration Fee - $150.
